How to Treat and Prevent Dry Skin in Winter

Winter dry skin is a common problem during the winter when environmental humidity is low. It can occur at all ages. It's very important to treat winter dry skin on time, to prevent premature aging and eczema.


Following are some simple winter care tips that can help you to treat dry skin:
  • Mix some organic bath salt in the luke warm water and take a shower with this water. Salts made with some essential natural oils which helps in the healing of dry skin and makes skin     softer and suppler.
  • Use glycerine soaps or soaps that containing moisturizer, only in specific areas that develop an odour like armpits, genital area, and feet. Clean face and neck with cleansing cream or lotion.
  • Use a very good thick cream instead of lotion.
  • You can make your own winter care lotion at home for your chapped body skin, which works like cream. Mix same quantity of organic glycerine, rosewater and lime juice and store it in a bottle. Shake it well every time before use. If you feel very sticky then mix more rose water in mixture.
  • Message your skin with organic oil such as Jojoba oil,olive oil  just before to finish your shower. After message just rinse yourself a little so that the extra oil can get out from your body.
  • Gently pat the skin partially dry with a towel after shower or every time after you wash your skin.
  • After shower as soon as possible apply a moisturizer enriched with Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or aloe to those areas which prone to dryness to seal the hydration in the skin.  Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day and evening whenever possible to hands, arms and feet, whenever feel itchy.
  • To prevent rough, dry  chapped  finger tips ,make a habit of using waterproof gloves when the hands have chance to be exposed to hot water and detergents during the  tasks as dish washing and other household cleaning projects.
  • Always go out in the cold with warm gloves or mittens.
  • Carry a pocket-size bottle of hand lotion or cream and apply it after every hand washing.
  • Stay out of overheated rooms; keep your heating in low temperature and use  warm clothes to keep you warm.
  • Seals the moisture of your with a layer of  good moisturizer before go out .
  • Remember the skin of the face and neck is very delicate and fragile so you have to be more protective on this area of your skin.
  • Central heating systems cause dry skin so you have to use humidifier to add moisture to the air inside your home.

  • Make him drink 8-12 glasses of water or Zero calorie fluid to keep the adequate hydration level inside the body.
  • Avoid or limit the intake of alcohol and caffeine. These substances have a diuretic effect in causing the body and skin cells to lose fluids and essential minerals.
  • Evening primrose oil supplements are beneficial to treat mature winter dry skin. They contain gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid helps to strengthen skin cells and boost their moisture content.
  • Eat food with omega 3 and natural oil such as flax seed, nuts,avocado.
  • Try to eat fruits and vegetable raw, as much as possible to get maximum benefits of Vitamin A and Vitamin C to treat winter dry skin.
